Grassroots Day for 2020 announced...

The Iron will host their fourth annual Grassroots Football Day, welcoming a wealth of local youngsters to the Sands Venue Stadium for our Sky Bet League Two fixture against Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, February 22nd, 2020. Click the more information button to direct you to the relevant page.

Grassroots Day

For the last three seasons, the Iron have hosted a Grassroots Day at Glanford Park.

For a specifically allocated match day, United have invited local youth groups to the stadium as part of group booking packages with over 70 local junior football teams taking advantage of the offer most recently in February 2019.

In 2017, the day was held when Scunthorpe hosted Fleetwood Town, 2018 saw Gillingham visit the Iron, while in 2019 it was Accrington Stanley who were at Glanford Park on the day. On all three occasions, the event has boosted the overall attendance by around 1,000 people with a number of adults and under-18s arriving for their first ever live football matches.

Such is the success of the event, the club plans to continue offering these events once per season.

Keep an eye out for our Grassroots Day in 2020!

  • Great day, the kids absolutely loved it and many of them want to go again, which amazes me as I can’t usually get them to sit still for 5 minutes let alone 90!! My own 2 girls have already been badgering me if they come with me next week!

Well done, brilliantly organised as usual.

Thanks again for a great day and will let you know when we are going to get the girls back for another game this season!

  • I would just like to thank all at Scunthorpe United for all you do for the young fans!! My little boy Leyton and his best friend Oliver are season ticket holder and Junior Iron Club members they go to majority home matches together and some away games.

They truly feel part of the Scunthorpe United family due to all the attention and support they get from everyone involved at the club. The players are amazing with the young fans always speaking wherever they can but I must also say people like James that recently helped us organise the Broughton Ravers flag bearing has gone above and beyond to make the boys feel like stars themselves.

Having these experiences are not only encouraging the boys to support Scunthorpe but also for them all to follow the footballing dreams!! I honestly can’t thank you enough for all of the little things you do as a club that make my boy beam every time he goes to Glanford Park!!
